I used to be on facebook for about 6 years and in that time made friends with several people across the world. One particular family I became very fond of and a member of this family has recently had life changing surgery, so as a reminder to her, that I still think about her I made her this picture, something she can look at when ever she feels a bit down and be either lifted by the sentiment or just the thought that someone on the otherside of the world that she has never met cares. After all we all need to feel loved and special sometimes ...
The picture frame was just a plain wooden frame that I covered with some K and company paper. The sentiment is A

Altered Box - Black Butterfly
My friend was looking at a tissue box in a supermarket and said she wanted it because it had butterflies on it. I said I'll make you one, what colour would you like it (thinking of a rainbow of colours I could use) and then she said it ... black, silver, grey, white, glittery, sparkly, and can I have it to keep my colouring pencils in !!! UGH I'm no good with monochrome, but I said OK, and this is what I managed to come up with, a rather ornate pencil box hahahahaha ...
The box ( from Candy box Crafts) comes as a flat pack, as is fairly simple to assemble, all the pieces are numbered but there are no actual instructions.
I primed it first with black gesso and then black acrylic paint and then a final coat of DecoArt Glamour Dust Ultra fine Glitter paint - black.
The chipboard trellis is by Dusty Attic and painted with white gesso and then Platinum Tim Holtz Distress paint.
The butterflies on the sides and front are also chipboard by Dusty Attic again painted with white gesso and then with DecoArt Glamour Dust Ultra fine Glitter paint - silver and Daler-Rowney graduate acrylic pearl white paint.
Thank you for looking and take care and keep smiling :)
